NEW EP FROM MCMASH CLAN RELEASED ON CIRCUS RECORDS
Genre-encompassing and innovative production trio The McMash Clan deliver their ‘Birds Sing’ EP on 26th May, via Circus Records. An impressive journey through various soundscapes, this collection of tracks touches on just about every kind of bass sound out there – and in spectacular style.
The title track comes in the form of a bouncing, reggae-tinged piece of funk. Featuring the energizing sounds of Late Day Breakers, it opens with an easy swing before developing into glitchier territories, intensifying as twisting synth stabs and gurgling bass develop around the melody. Next up comes ‘Shadow Dance’ – an atmospheric and Trap-fused track that has a climatic feel before it hits a juddering and almost frenzied breakdown. ‘Requiem’, which was part of Circus’ ‘Grand Central’ LP and features the clarity of Kate Mullin’s vocals, is an outstanding contradiction of elements. A hauntingly choral vocal and string introduction composed by Mullins switches into an immense D&B bass line flurry, executed with impeccable production. Finally comes a hefty remix from the masterful Dodge & Fuski with ‘Jericho’ by The McMash Clan and Million Dan. The pair takes the original down in tempo, incorporating bold brass sections and dancehall elements.
‘Birds Sing’ is a fresh, explorative EP that grabs attention for all the right reasons, highlighting the aptitude of The McMash Clan brilliantly. Four polished yet diverse tracks – this group is certainly one to watch.
